Research Line: Yeast Genetics and Microbiology.
Brief review of research line:
I have been interested in studying the Genetic regulation and control isoprenoid synthesis in yeast. Isoprenoids comprise a large family of natural products derived from them and sterols that are lipids play an important structural and regulatory function of the membranes of eukaryotes. The most abundant and fungi equivalent to cholesterol, sterol is ergosterol. That is why my studies have focused on the synthesis of ergosterol for which I used as a model to yeast Xanthophyllomyces dendrorhousSince this yeast produces carotenoid pigments, which also belong to the family of isoprenoid compounds.
In the ergosterol synthesis pathway they are involved two enzymes belonging to a large family of enzymes known as P450 monooxygenasas (P450s). Thus, my research has also been directed to the study of P450 enzymes in fungi.
