Research Lines
We are interested in understanding how natural factors (geographic barriers, oceanographic currents) and products of human activity (barriers, pollution, fisheries) affect natural populations of aquatic species. For this, we use different genetic and statistical tools, associating them with characters such as i) geometric and traditional morphometry to describe patterns associated with adaptation, ii) quantification of contaminants in organisms and the environment to associate them with population structuring patterns and iii) oceanographic currents and movement of planktonic larvae to understand the connectivity patterns between isolated populations. geographically.
Furthermore, we study the genetic and selective effects of anthropogenic factors on natural populations of various organisms, determining the effects of these factors on population structuring, gene flow, genetic diversity and gene expression of natural populations.
