We regret to inform you that the Organizing Committee of the joint meeting of the societies of Biology of Chile, Botany of Chile, Ecology of Chile and Chilean Society of Evolution have unanimously decided to cancel the congress scheduled for November 20-22 in the city of Valdivia . The reasons that led us to such a drastic decision is the current political-social contingency that affects us as a nation, and that has led to a feeling of extreme insecurity that has been the feeling expressed by many of our partners, colleagues and students, and that we subscribe. We regret the apathy of our government and political authorities in taking clear and forceful measures for the sake of a solution to the social conflict that has afflicted us for more than three weeks. We believe that in these moments of extreme tension at the national level we must have a closer commitment to the ongoing social movement and be closer to our families than concerned about our academic activities.
The Organizing Committee has the firm conviction of holding this congress very soon, and the agreed date is to hold it in Valdivia at the same hotel between Wednesday, March 11 and Friday, March 13, 2020. In this regard, all registration payments and accommodation reservations of our participants made through the Biology Society of Chile remain unchanged. Likewise, those students who were favored with scholarships granted by the joint meeting will continue their normal course.
